Puppy Mills - THE HORROR HAS GOT TO STOP!! Thousands and thousands and thousands of dogs and puppies are suffering this very minute - and every minute of every day. In fact, millions of puppies are sold through puppy mills each year. And what is being done about it? Almost nothing. Laws are minimal; investigator's hands are tied. But you can easily help just by passing on information. Please read the information below and watch the puppy mill videos at the bottom of this page. It is important. Take a few minutes to properly educate yourself so you can help stop this madness. It is a lack of understanding that is prolonging the suffering and we know you don't want to part of the problem.
Dogs live their entire lives in tiny wire cages or crates that are often stacked to breed as many dogs as possible. The animals are packed into the cages to maximize space and profits. The health of the dogs is a complete non-concern and conditions inside these kennels are deplorable. Rotting teeth, pussy eyes, massive ear infections, excrement-caked fur and malnutrition are commonplace The animals are kept alive for one reason and one reason only: to make money for the puppy mill owner by mass-breeding dogs to sell to pet stores and through local (newspaper ads for example) and internet advertising. Puppy mills are able to survive because people are unaware when they purchase a puppy from a pet store (or online store) that it came from a puppy mill. And on and on it goes... Puppy mills have been around for decades. They continue to thrive because they prey on unwitting consumers who are smitten by too-cute-for-words puppies in pet store windows and on legitimate-seeming websites. Puppy mills house dogs in shockingly poor conditions. After their fertility wanes, breeding animals are often killed, abandoned or sold cheaply to another mill to try and get "one more litter" out of the dog. The annual result of all this breeding is millions of puppies, many with behavior and/or health problems. - Humane Society.orgYou Can Help - Do Not Buy Your Puppy From a Pet Store When you purchase a puppy from a pet store or online pet supply company, you are helping to promote puppy mills, it's as simple as that. Even when people are aware of the puppy mill / pet store connection, they often feel that they are "rescuing" the puppy from the confines of the pet store cage. In fact, purchasing the puppy only makes room for another one - from a puppy mill - and keeps the problem alive. That is why we are in the position we are today: millions of dogs being mass-produced in horrific conditions - all because of unwitting consumers. If no one buys these puppies, there will be no market and no reason to run a puppy mill. Ways You Can Help Nifter.com has joined the fight against puppy mills and we hope you will too. If you have a website, post some information about puppy mills and purchasing dogs from online and physical pet stores. Tell your friends, neighbours, anyone - especially those who are thinking about buying a puppy. If you are with someone who is considering "rescuing" a puppy from a pet store, or buying one online from a website that "seems okay," explain to them what is really happening. Point out that they are. in fact, helping puppy mills to exist and thrive allowing more and more dogs to suffer endlessly. Help them to understand that these puppies often have behaviour problems regardless, and that they are almost always taken from their mothers too young - which also causes behaviour issues. You can help. You just need to speak up and do not - DO NOT - purchase a puppy from a pet store. Reputable, reference-checked breeders, rescue groups and humane societies are legitimate sources for dogs and puppies. Avoid all others. Please spread the word. If the law won't fix this horrendous problem, we can put them out of business ourselves. Everyone needs to help, however, but helping is not difficult. If demand for puppies through pet stores and online outlets is cut off, there will be no need for the supply of puppy mill puppies, and they will go out of business. These people are interested in money only. They will not continue to operate a puppy mill that is not making money. Spread the word.
